During the COVID-2019/2020 Pandemic, NEUROTANGO adapted its experience to a virtual format, modifying its activities to a University Extension Workshop of the National University of the Arts-UNA of the Department of Folklore with a distance modality.
Because the population to whom NEUROTANGO is directed has various intellectual disabilities, it is necessary not to lose pedagogical continuity, the presence and the constancy of the emotional bond during the pandemic. As well as the importance of physical activity that involves felt movement and the senses of movement that supports us as a healing framework within Dance Movement Therapy.
Which is why individual classes were implemented by video call, movement tutorial videos, artistic samples with choreographies created by teachers and students from home, and group movement sessions via Zoom.
In conclusion, during the COVID-19/2020 Pandemic we maintained the call and participation of people with intellectual disabilities, achieving the objectives of the university extension workshop “NEUROTANGO: Neurodiverse Tango” proposed every Saturday from April to December 2020.
In addition, the collective participation of teachers and benefactors was also key and the participation of parents and families was of great help for said continuity. This allowed the “NEUROTANGO: Neurodiverse Tango at a distance” workshop to be carried out despite the COVID-19/2020 Pandemic, with success both in the call and in the objectives set and achieved during preventive and mandatory social isolation.
